11. Can I complete the online course at my own pace?

Yes. The 8-Hour Security Guard Training course is completely self-paced, allowing you to start, stop, and resume your training whenever it is convenient.


12. Do I need a separate endorsement to carry a firearm?

Yes. A Colorado Springs Private Security Officer License does not authorize you to carry a firearm while working. Security officers who carry a firearm must obtain a Firearm Endorsement, complete the required firearms training, successfully qualify on the range, and meet all applicable licensing requirements.


13. Does a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) allow me to work as an armed security officer?

No. A Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) does not replace the Colorado Springs Firearm Endorsement. Armed security officers must obtain the required endorsement and comply with all City of Colorado Springs licensing requirements before carrying a firearm while working.


14. What equipment is required for the 16-Hour Armed Security Guard Training?

Students attending the 16-Hour Armed Security Guard Training must bring:

  • Valid government-issued photo ID
  • A full-size or compact duty-style semi-automatic handgun in safe working condition. Recommended models include:

  • 200 rounds of factory ammunition
  • A Level I retention holster or higher that is specifically fitted and designed for your firearm (Serpa-style holsters are not permitted)
  • A quality gun belt or duty belt
  • A dual magazine holder
  • A minimum of three (3) magazines compatible with your handgun
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Water and weather-appropriate clothing

For safety, all firearms must arrive unloaded and secured in a case or range bag until instructed otherwise by the instructor. Any firearm or equipment determined to be unsafe or unsuitable may not be permitted on the firing line.


15. Is this course for both new applicants and renewals?

Yes. The Colorado Springs 8-Hour Online Security Guard Training is approved for both new applicants applying for a Private Security Officer License and currently licensed security officers renewing their license.


16. Do I need previous security experience?

No. This course is designed for individuals with no prior security experience as well as currently licensed security officers completing their required renewal training.
