2. Who needs the 16-Hour Online Security Guard Training?

The 16-Hour Online Security Guard Training is designed for individuals applying for a new Pueblo Security Guard License. This course provides the foundational training required before applying for licensure.

3. Who should take the 8-Hour Online Security Guard Renewal course?

The 8-Hour Online Renewal Course is for currently licensed Pueblo security guards who need to complete their required renewal training to maintain their security guard license.

4. What is the 8-Hour Armed Security Guard Training?

Our 8-Hour Armed Security Guard Training is completed through our NRA Basic Pistol Course. This instructor-led course includes classroom instruction, firearms safety, marksmanship fundamentals, Colorado use-of-force laws, live-fire range training, and a qualification for individuals seeking to work as armed security guards in Pueblo.

5. Are the 16-Hour and 8-Hour security guard courses completed online?

Yes. Both the 16-Hour New Applicant Course and the 8-Hour Renewal Course are completed entirely online, allowing students to complete their training at their own pace from any computer, tablet, or mobile device.

6. Is the Armed Security Guard Training conducted online?

No. The 8-Hour Armed Security Guard Training is conducted in person because it includes classroom instruction, firearms safety, hands-on training, and a live-fire qualification.

7. How long is a Pueblo Security Guard License valid?

A Pueblo Security Guard License is valid for one (1) year from the date it is issued. To continue working as a licensed security guard, you must renew your license before it expires.

8. When can I renew my Pueblo Security Guard License?

You may begin the renewal process before your license expires. Renewing your license early helps prevent a lapse and allows you to continue working without interruption.

9. Can I renew my Pueblo Security Guard License after it expires?

If your Pueblo Security Guard License expires, you must stop working as a licensed security guard until your license has been renewed or reissued in accordance with Pueblo Police Department requirements. Renewing before your expiration date is the best way to avoid an interruption in employment.

10. Do I need separate firearms training to work as an armed security guard?

Yes. A standard Pueblo Security Guard License does not authorize you to carry a firearm while working. Security guards who carry a firearm must complete the required firearms training and meet all applicable licensing requirements established by the Pueblo Police Department.

11. Can I work as an armed security guard with only a Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP)?

No. A Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) does not replace the firearms training required for armed security licensing. Armed security guards must complete the required firearms training and comply with all applicable licensing requirements.

• Valid government-issued photo ID
• A full-size or compact duty-style semi-automatic handgun in safe working condition. Recommended models include:

  • Walther PDP
  • Walther PDP Compact
  • SIG Sauer P320

• 200 rounds of factory ammunition
• A Level I retention holster or higher that is specifically fitted and designed for your firearm (Serpa-style holsters are not permitted)
• A quality gun belt or duty belt
• A dual magazine holder
• A minimum of three (3) magazines compatible with your handgun
• Eye protection
• Hearing protection
• Closed-toe shoes
• Water and weather-appropriate clothing

For safety, all firearms must arrive unloaded and secured in a case or range bag until instructed otherwise by the instructor.

16. Do I need previous security experience?

No. The 16-Hour Online Security Guard Training is designed for individuals entering the private security profession with no prior experience.

17. Can I complete the online courses at my own pace?

Yes. Both the 16-Hour New Applicant Course and the 8-Hour Renewal Course are self-paced, allowing you to start, stop, and resume your training whenever it is convenient for your schedule.

18. Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes. Students who successfully complete their required training will receive a Certificate of Completion that can be submitted as part of their Pueblo Security Guard License application or renewal.
